Originally hailing from Scotland, I have lived all over the world – Chile, the Middle East, New Orleans, Austin, and now Albuquerque. My husband and I love exploring New Mexico’s mountains and diverse landscape with our two pups. Fitness has been a driving passion of mine since childhood, climbing every tree I could find and competing in gymnastics for 10 years. Some of my most rewarding feats include cycling 4,000 miles from Austin to Anchorage, and breaking Texas State Powerlifting records to qualify for the World Championships. Fitness journeys are rarely a smooth path and mine has certainly been filled with its share of struggles. My experience with injury and illness allows me to be a more patient, knowledgeable, and compassionate ally in your health journey.

During my mid 20s, I started experiencing symptoms such as painful bloating, extreme fatigue, and chronic muscle and joint pain, which lead to incessant anxiety and depression. I naively pushed through these symptoms, determined to maintain my reputation of being strong, fit, and invincible. Fooling myself and others only lasted for so long. In 2016, my digestive symptoms transpired into full blown Crohn’s disease. I spent an entire year largely confined to bed and unable to work, walk, eat, or live life as I had always known it. Even changing positions in bed was excruciating. That year alone I had countless colonoscopies, procedures, surgeries, and hospitalizations; I became severely malnourished and underweight. To say that I was devastated and hopeless is an understatement.

Fast forward several years and I feel better than ever! It has required a staggering amount of patience, perseverance, a change in attitude, as well as biologic medications that suppress my immune system. Adjusting my diet played a pivotal role in getting my life back! Thanks to the healing power of nourishing food, I have drastically improved my gut issues, diminished my joint pain, cleared my acne, and boosted my energy and mood!
